How To Ted Lasso The Sh*T Out Of Endings

Endings are a part of life that cannot be avoided, hard as we may try at times. After several years of having ALL the endings, I've been thinking a lot about what I have learned. Foremost, there is safety in sameness or keeping the status quo, but transformation is rarely found there.

It's natural to feel uncertain about the future, but with the right mindset and strategies, you can Ted Lasso the sh*t out of your endings and turn directly toward new beginnings.

Here are some tips on how to have an ending that will have you rising from the ashes like the badass that you are:

  1. Any loss is significant and it's essential to allow yourself time to grieve. Don't try to avoid your feelings because that usually ends up in buffering behaviors, e.g. eating, drinking, shopping or streaming. Give yourself permission to feel the emotions of sadness, anger, hurt or disappointment that come with an ending (it's not only healthier for you, but way cheaper!)

  2. Self-care is critical during and after an ending. It's important to take care of yourself both physically and mentally. Eat healthy foods, exercise regularly, get enough sleep, and engage in activities that bring you joy.

  3. Endings can be isolating because you feel like you are the only one having the experience, so it's essential to connect with others. Reach out to friends, family, or a support group. Consider seeing a therapist or coach to help you navigate the emotional landscape of a significant ending.

  4. After something ends, you may feel like you've lost a sense of who you are. Take the time to rediscover your interests and passions. Try new activities or hobbies that you've always wanted to pursue but were too busy maintaining the status quo.

  5. Setting goals can help you feel more in control and give you something to work towards. Think about what you want to achieve in the short and long-term and create a plan to make it happen.

Endings can be a difficult and emotional time, but it's possible to not just get through it but thrive with the right mindset. In addition to my own experience, I have worked with many clients through endings - career shifts, break-ups, kids leaving home - and can guarantee you will come out the other side stronger than you ever thought you could be.

If you want to grow and move your life forward, you have to shake things up which often means moving on from things that no longer serve you. The only way to get unstuck is to embrace change as a part of life.

Always remember, endings, no matter how fraught or dramatic aren't shameful!! Focus on your feelings, self-care, connect with others, rediscover your interests and set goals for yourself because it's never too late to create a your badass life!
